MONITOR MATTERS

Would you use an old TV from a garage sale to do your color correction? Of course not. Why, then, do you rely on an old set of speakers from the attic to monitor your audio? Good audio monitors are just as important to the quality of your project as good video monitors.

It's important to have a variety of monitors available to check your mix. For best results, we recommend a pair of high-end shielded studio monitor with flat response from 20Hz-20kHz. A powered pair allows you to get perfectly matched amplifiers and simplifies setup. Shielding reduces interference when placed in close proximity to your video monitors.

You should also check your mix on a pair of consumer grade or A/V type speakers like those in your end-user's setup. Finally, test the mix on an inexpensive television. Is the VO intelligible? Does your mix exhibit any phase-cancellation when played in mono? Critical listening on a variety of speakers will give you a better idea of what your end-user will hear.
