From Word to Image: Storyboarding and the Filmmaking Process focuses mostly on the storyboarding.
Expecting limited knowledge of the storyboarding process, the author, Marcie Begleiter, starts from the beginning. Much of the book is concentrated on maximizing perspectives, understanding the power of color, and organizing and balancing figures and texts within the frame. As many people have difficulty transferring ideas to paper, Begleiter starts with visualizing the scene and helps the reader understand the timeline that storyboarding requires in preproduction. Even professionally trained graphic designers appreciate the more advanced tips that help maximize workflow.
For visual learners, the book includes plenty of graphics. Including aspect ratio calculations, ratio templates in the back of the book, actual storyboarding diagrams, and helpful storyboarding resources, Begleiter relays her vast knowledge on the art of storyboarding within the filmmaking process.
